If you are a busy cook, an omelet is the easiest dish you can make. Omelet is the perfect breakfast or brunch and it can also serve successfully as lunch and dinner. Whether you are in a hurry or you cannot recognize a spatula even if it falls on your head, here is the ultimate omelets guide.

The American dictionary defines omelet as beaten eggs cooked until set and folded over, often around a filling. So, if you are really in a hurry, here is your basic omelet recipe: beat eggs, cook them until they are set, fold them over and add anything you have on the fridge as filling. Seriously, here you can learn how to make the basic omelet. In addition, you can find here ideas for an upgraded omelet including tips on how to make a low fat omelet.

The Basic Omelet
Ingredients per 1 serving:
a) 2 or 3 fresh eggs
b) 1 tablespoon butter or oil
c) 2 tablespoons of milk or cold water
d) pinch of salt
e) fillings: chopped vegetables, meet, fish, cheese.

Instructions
1) Spread the butter or oil on a standard cooking pan.
2) Let the pan warm in a medium heat.
3) In the meantime, pour the eggs into a bowl, add your preferred fluid, salt and mix the ingredients all together.
4) When the pan is warm, pour the content of the bowl into the pan. Tilt the pan until the mixture covers it.
5) While you are waiting for the eggs to set, prepare the fillings.
6) When the sides of the omelet start to look crispy, pour the fillings into one half of the omelet.
7) Fold the empty half of the omelet onto the other half.
8) Let the folded omelet to cook for a few minutes, then gently pour it into your plate.

The Ultimate Omelet
As you can see, making a basic omelet is as easy as ordering pizza. The secret, as any grandma would admit, lies in the filling. Omelets filling can be anything you like including vegetables, meat, seafood, cheese or even leftovers such as pasta or crusted bread. A classic omelet will be filled with all of the above plus fresh or dried herbs. Here are some ideas for omelet fillings that have been proved to be successful as well as filling.

The Classic French Omelet:
There many variations to the classic French omelet filling. One of my top favorites is the Bretonne style omelet or, if you insist, lomelette Brettone, which contains minced leek, shredded onions and diced mushrooms.

The Spanish Omelet:
Preparing the Spanish omelet also known as Tortilla de patatas takes a little bit more preparation. On the other hand, it is a full meal on a plate. The classic version is filled with baked potatoes and chopped and minced onions. Spanish omelets variations also include tomatoes, beans and spinach.

The Farmers Omelet:
This is the classic breakfast for the hard workers. With diced, uncooked potatoes, diced ham, chopped onions and some cheddar, you will not be starting your day on an empty stomach.

The Sweet Omelet:
Omelet does not have to be sour. A sweet omelet can be a nice day starter. You can fill your omelet with strawberries, cream cheese and a pinch of vanilla.

The Vegetarian Omelet:
This type of omelet can be filled with anything that did have any parents. According to a recommended recipe, a vegetarian omelet is filled with chopped green peppers, chopped zucchini and fresh parsley.

The Aunt July Omelet:
This kind of omelet is filled with fresh tomatoes, cheddar cheese and chopped onions. It is the easy, does not require early preparations and tastes very good. At least it did when I was four.

The Low Fat Omelet
Here are some useful tips to help you reduce the potential of getting arteriosclerosis from having omelets on a daily basis:
a) Use only the egg whites.
b) Use olive oil instead of butter.
c) Prefer low fat fillings: fresh vegetables, herbs, low fat meats such as turkey or salmon.

Obesity and Revelations My Personal Struggle

Obesity and Revelations My Personal Struggle

In the United States, obesity has reached epidemic proportions. Obesity is among the top 5 causes of preventable death in the US. That's right, I said preventable! The fact is, obesity is closely connected to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and an increased risk of several related cancers. Each of these diseases relates to other organs as well. Given these health risks are quite real, losing weight, even as little as ten pounds, decreases your risks. It appears that losing weight is really good for you.
My Personal Journey
I am rather certain there is no one who would disagree with me. So why is weight loss so difficult. From personal experience, I can say I struggled for years with my weight.
While I am sure there are 'heavy' genes in my family gene pool, that is more of an escape clause than not. I tried every diet that I could find. Diets that promised instant success. Others that required me to keep strict food diaries. Some even required that I attend meetings in order to order their food. I went to psychologists, psychiatrists, and even a hypnotist, none of which worked. I found the problem was that I wanted quick results, a magic formula, that would melt fat away and make me skinny.

Truth is, I decided to give up and live in my fat body. I joined a fat support group where we told each other there was nothing wrong with us. But, I left every meeting depressed. I did not wish to be fat, I did not wish to tax my body into failing me before my time. And then it happened. I had an important revelation.

The Revelation
No matter how hard I wished for a quick fix, I figured out there is no magic spell that will melt fat from my system. I became convinced that the solution to my being overweight was to figure out how many calories I could take in to create a calorie deficit allowing me to lose weight. Weight loss, I concluded, was a matter of eating fewer calories than I burned over the course of a day. As long as I eat fewer calories than I burn I will lose all the weight I wanted to lose.
I also decided that I needed to do some exercise in order to increase the calories I burned. As a child, I loved riding my bicycle around town. I rode to school, to the store, to the village square. My friends and I often took 'bike hikes' of up to 30 miles one way. Riding a bike seemed like a good way to start. Not wanting to overdo anything, I decided to limit my rides to from 20 to 30 minutes every day, rain or shine.

I also began to think about what I was eating. I began to look at labels on the boxes of processed food I had in the cupboards. YIKES, so many ingredients I had trouble pronouncing. I read about the processed food industry and the impact of chemicals consumed on weight gain. Slowly, I began to walk away from processed foods in favor of naturally grown vegetables and fruits. I also did not wish to eat meats pumped full of antibiotics, growth hormones and who knows what else. As I changed my approach to food, and believe me it didn't happen overnight, I began shedding pounds.

The Long-Term Positive Results
Now, some years removed from my revelation, I am a healthy weight. I have more energy than I ever thought possible. I sleep well at night. I changed my career and became a weight loss counselor working with others to face the same battles I faced.
In the final analysis, four things became the foundational basis of my life. First, I chose to detoxify my body. The first seven days of detoxification were simply miserable. After that, all I do each day is begin and end my day with a cup of Red Tea to help eliminate any new toxins that slipped in during the day. Secondly, I became quite conscious of what I was eating. I moved to a low carb diet because it made sense to me. It was the easiest way to cut out processed sugars and flours. I still count calories every day; it is a habit rather than a burden. Thirdly, my decision to ride my bike was the right one. I am still riding. Last summer I took off four weeks and joined a group biking through Alaska. WOW! Simply beautiful. Finally, I learned to meditate to stay motivated. Yes, I still have days where I wish I could eat that entire chocolate cake I saw in the baker's window. But those urges are quickly stilled as I concentrate on my breathing. I choose not to dwell on those urges which now seldom arrive.

They don't realize that lack of oxygen is the underlying cause of most diseases and sickness. When the cells in our body is supplied and delivered with abundant amounts of oxygen, no viruses, harmful bacteria, toxins, pathogens and disease microorganisms can survive because they cannot survive in a highly oxygenated body. Most common Types of Cancer - Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Most common Types of Cancer - Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Image source: http://slideplayer.com/8165307/25/images/23/Non+hodgkin+s+lymphoma+There+are+many+different+types+of+non+Hodgkin+s+lymphomas..jpg

Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of lymphoma is also known as Hodgkin's Disease started from the lymph nodes in the chest, armpits and neck. It was named under Thomas Hodgkin, for first to describe the abnormalities of the lymph system in 1832. Hodgkin's lyphoma, is invasive and tends to spread orderly from one lymph node group to another. It is not a common disease with approximately 800 and 7000 of new cases reported every year in Canada and US accordingly and mostly occurs to young adults and after the age of 45.

Types of Hodgkin's lymphoma
1. Nodular sclerosis Hodgkin's lymphoma (NSHD)
It is the most common type of Hodgkin's lymphoma, accounted for 60% to 80% of all cases originated from the lymph nodes of the chest, including the upper diaphragm and abdominal muscles that control breathing just under the lung.

2. Mixed cellularity Hodgkin's lymphoma (MCHD)
It is another type of Hodgkin's lymphma, accounted for 15 - 30% of all cases and tends to affect the lymph nodes of the abdomen, the neck and armpits and men than women with all ages.

3. Lymphocyte depletion Hodgkin's lymphoma (LDHD)
It is a rare type of Hodgkin's lymphoma accounted less than 1% of all cases and occurred more often in the undeveloped world. Most of the time it is detected without enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, armpits or groin. The disease is classified to 2 subtypes
a. Nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin's lymphoma (nLPHD)
b. Diffuse lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin's lymphoma (dLPHD)

4. Lymphocyte-rich classic Hodgkin's lymphoma (cLRHD)
It is also another rare type of Hodgkin's lymphoma, accounted for approximate for 5% of all cases and tends to occur in the age group of 45+ years of age and more in men than women. It is most common to be detected with an enlargement of lymph nodes in the neck, chest or armpits, other lymph nodes and organs.

5. Etc.

Symptoms
1. Enlarge lymph node
Painless enlargement of one or more lymph nodes in the neck and shoulders and chest are often as a result of the malignancy of lymph node cells.
2. Pain
In the later stage of Hodgkin's lymphoma, lymph nodes in the abdomen may cause pain in the spleen, leading to tenderness and fullness in the abdomen.
3. Fatigue
4. Enlargement of the spleen and of liver
They may be due to infection in the advance stage of the diseases and are presented in about 30% and 5% of all cases accordingly.
5. Pain followed by drinking alcohol
May be due to swelling of the involved nodes or increased pressure in diseased marrow that leads to bone pain.
6. Back Pain
Often happens to the lower back in advance stage patients.
7. B symptoms
The presence or absence of B symptoms is used to determine the stage of Hodgkin's lymphma
letter A in any stage means no B symptoms are present while letter B indicates otherwise.
a. Weight loss
Unintentional loss of 10% of your body at the onset of Hodgkin's lymphoma
b. Unexplained fever
Happened several times with no explained cause.
c. Night sweat
Night sweat required to change cloth at night.
8. Itchy skin
Itchy skin in the affect area of lymph nodes.
9. Etc.

Causes and risk factors
A. The causes of Hodgkin's lymphoma still unknown, but researchers suggested the theories below
1. Infection
According to this theory, Hodgkin's lymphoma seems to spread from one lymph node group to another, consistent with an infection from an agent such as Epstein-Barr viru.

2. Virus
This theory suggest that infection with the Epstein-Barr virus may trigger Hodgkin's lymphoma as study found that the Epstein-Barr virus is present in as many as 50 percent of all cases of Hodgkin's lymphoma.

3. Weakened immune system
One theory suggested that Epstein-Barr virus reduces the immune response of the killer T-cells by preventing them from multiplying. Other studies have suggested that EBV may even cause a mutation in the p53 gene, causing the cancer cell's to grow relentlessly and uncontrollably. Further research is required to confirm these theories.

4. Etc.

B. Risk factors
1. Weakened immune system
May be due to weakening of B cells and killer T-cells in the immune system.
2. Prolonged use of human growth hormone
Researchers took a hard look at the lifetime medical records of the children who were treated with the human growth hormone between 1959 and 1985 and suggested that taking the old form of hGH significantly increased risk of cancer, especially colon cancer and Hodgkin's lymphoma.
3. Age
As we mentioned above, young adult are people most at risk of Hodgkin's lymphoma.
4. Gender
Men is more more likely to develop Hodgkin's lymphoma
5. Epstein-Barr virus or human herpesvirus 4
People infected with this type of virus are more likely to develop Hodgkin's lymphoma than are people who haven't.
6. Geography
Hodgkin's lymphoma is most common in the United States, Canada and northern Europe but less in Asian countries.
7. Exposure to exotoxins
There is a link that exposure to exotoxins such as Orange agent and Hodgkin's lymphoma as some of the veterans who fought the Vietnam war are died as the result of the disease.
8. Etc.

Diagnosis and tests
1. Biopsy
Biopsy is the procedure of taking a sample or removing an entire lymph node.from one or more sample from cancerous areas with a thin needle and viewed by specialist(pathologist) under microscope to determine types of malignant cells.

2. Thoracotomy
Thoracotomy is the process of surgery by making of an incision into the chest wall, if cancerous lymph node found in the chest to study the condition of the lungs and surrounding area.

3. Stages testing
To determine the stage of the cancer
a. Blood tests
In Hodgkin's lyphoma, blood lest is important. In case, surgery is necessary to determine the affects of cancer to the function of bone marrow. A sample of blood is drawn from your vein to determine the number of red blood cells and the amount of hemoglobin, white blood cells and platelets.

b. Chest X-ray radiographs
A chest X-ray radiograph (X-ray) is impotant for your doctor to visualize tissues, organs and bones that lie beneath the skin of the chest cavity to see any swollen lymph nodes in the chest and if cancer has spread to the lymth nodes in the lung.

c. Computed tomography (CT) of abdomen and Liver
A CT scan generates a large series of two-dimensional X-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation, to create a three-dimensional picture of the inside of abdomen and the liver in details. The pictures are viewed by your doctor to see the extent of the tumors abnormalities, such as spreading of cancer to the nearby structure and lymph nodes.

d. Bone marrow biopsy
In Hodgon's lymphima, bone marrow biopsy is important if transplant may sometime is necessary. During this proceure, a small amount of bone marrow, blood and bone are removed through a needle and are examined for signs of cancer.

e. Lymphangiogram
A lymphangiogram is a special x-ray used to chech for any abnormal cells growth or cancerous cells in the lymph nodes and lymph vessels.

f. Liver biopsy
It is a procedure to examine a sample withdrawn from the liver to view inder microscope for nay sign of cancerous cells by either percutaneous, transvenous, and laparoscopic.

g. Positron emission tomography (PET)
The important test for your doctor to determine the location of the cancer. In the procedure, by using the injection a small amount of radioactive glucose into the vein to reveal the location as glucose is become concentrated around cancer cells.

h. Etc.

Stages of Hodgkin's lymphoma and treatments according to stage of a patient
After Hodgkin's lymphoma is diagnosed, several tests will be used to determine the stage of a patient to determine types of treatment, according to Ann Arbor staging classification
1. Stage I
Cancer is found only in a single lymph node region or a single extra lymphatic site (only one area or organ outside of the lymph nodes).

2. Stage II
Cancers found in two or more lymph node sites and on the same side of the diaphragm or one lymph node area and a contiguous extra-lymphatic site

3. Stage III
Cancers found in lymph node areas on both sides of the diaphragm and may have spread to a contiguous extra-lymphatic organ or site, and may include the spleen.

Stage IV
Cancer have spread over a large area, one or more extra-lymphatic organs.

Prevention
A. How to avoid
1. Avoid vitamin C supplement
Researcher found that taking vitamin C supplement, containing soldium ascorbate can induce a flare-up of Hodgkin's symptoms.

2. Meats
Diet high in meats is associated with the increased risk of Hodgkin's lymphoma and worsen the symptoms.

3. Antioxidants
Taking fruits and vegetables enhances the body immune system in fighting against forming of free radical and free radical caused of cancer due to high amount of antioxidants in them.

4. Avoid alcohol
Alcohol not only can exhibit the symptoms but damages the liver, thus suppresing parts of immune system in fighting against diseases.

5. Avoid infection and inflammation
Even though infection or inflammation may not be accepted as a standard cause of Hodgkin's lymphoma, but since the theories are built in some kinds of evidences, it may be right in futher clincal trials. According to the American Cancer Society, there is a slight increased risk of developing Hodgkin's disease in those who have first contracted infectious mononucleosis.

6. Smoking
If you can for a optimal health.

7. Etc.

B. Diet
1. Pomegranate
Pomegranate not only is rich in antioxidants such as Polyphenol, which protects the cells from oxidation and contains substances which demonstrate the antibacterial and antiviral effects, but it also contains phytochemincals such as catechins, gallocatechins, and anthocyanins which demonstrates inhibition of cancer cells in some studies.

2. Cruciferous vegetables
Cruciferous vegetables beside contain high amount of phytochemical which is useful in may study in treating estrohen related cancers, it also contain Indole-3-carbinol, a chemical compoud needed for our body to enhances DNA repair, and act as an estrogen antagonist to slow the growth of cancer cells.

3. Leafy greens
Leafy green beside contains high amount of vitamins and minerals needed for our body daily function, it also contains 3,3'-Diindolylmethane which enhances the immune system in anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity.

4. Vegetables and fruits with different colors
Flavoinoids are pigments of the plant to either to attract pollinator animals or to protect the plant against organisms that cause plant disease. In vitro, high experimental concentrations demostrate the stronger antioxidant abilities than those of vitamin C and E. In study, researcher found that flavonoids could also induce mechanisms that may kill cancer cells and inhibit tumor invasion.

5. Etc.

C. Nutritional Supplements
1. Resveratrol
Resveratrol is produced naturally by several plant when under attack by bacteria or fungi. In rat study, researchers found that resveratrol demonstrated anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory effects. There has been many animal studies of resveratrol of the anti-cancer activity, but no human clinical trials for cancer have been reported.

2. Vitamin D
Researcher found that levels have been found to be lower in Non Hodgkin's lymphoma and to be protective in Hodgkin's lymphoma.

3. Flavonoids
In vitro, high concentrations of flavonids demonstrate the stronger antioxidant abilities than those of vitamin C and E. In study, researcher found that flavonoids could also induce mechanisms that may kill cancer cells and inhibit tumor invasion.

4. Vitamin A,C,E
Vitamin A,C and E are considered as one of the powerful antioxidants that show scavenging effect in free radical cause of alternation of DNA of cell.

5. Selenium
Selenium is another powerful antioxidant in preventing the free radical cause of DNA mutation of cells. In a laboratory study reported in May 2006 issue of "Annals of Oncology" researchers found that two selenium compounds, methylseleninic acid and selenodiglutathione, may provok cell death in cells from human lymphoma cancers.

6. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
Study found that Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) found in fish oil induces cell death in lymphoma cells.

7. Soy extracts
In some studies, researchers found that genistein, found in soy extracts, induces cell death in lymphoma cells (Baxa DM and Yoshimura FK in 2003).

8. Etc.

Treatments
A. Conventional medicine
Types of the cancer, stage and B symptoms are all taken into consideration to determine the best treatment for a patient
1. Radio therapy
a. Radiation may be used for stages II, III, and IV to kill any cancer cells remaining in the body. By using high-energy x-rays or other types of radiation, radiation therapy kills the cancer cells and keep them from growing or regrowing.
c. Side effects
c.1. Fatigue
c.2. Chest pain
c.3. Heart problem
c.4. Short of breath
c.5. Skin discoloration or pinkness, irritation.

Mineral Supplements - What They Do Not Tell You

Mineral Supplements - What They Do Not Tell You

Image source: http://slideplayer.com/9491180/29/images/16/WHOA+foods+are+foods+that+offer+energy%2C+but+do+not+provide+us+with+many+nutrients+%28vitamins%2C+minerals%29.+They+have+added+fat+and+or+sugar.+WHOA+foods+often+satisfy+our+sense+for+sweet+and+salty+foods+and+should+be+eaten+in+moderation+%28once+in+a+while%29..jpg

Our soil and therefore our food are deficient in minerals because of the industrialization of agriculture. How can we eat well and meet our nutritional needs? Growing our own organic food might be the answer but not practical for most people. Even if we could grow or buy enough organic fruit and vegetables, preparing and eating enough is a challenge. Can mineral supplementation make up for this shortfall in nutrition?

The answer is 'maybe' but there are problems with mineral supplements on the market: they vary in what minerals they include and in what quantities. Even if a mineral is present in the supplement, it may not be enough to be biologically effective. Even if it is present in sufficient quantity, the body may need other minerals and nutrients in order to absorb it - minerals work as a team.

Take calcium as an example: calcium is the most abundant mineral in our bodies and is almost all found in our bones. Roger Mason in 'The Minerals You Need' notes the irony that Europeans and North Americans eat far more calcium than other peoples. They are the only populations that take in the 1,000 mg per day of calcium recommended by the government (the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA)) yet they have far more bone and joint disease, especially arthritis and osteoporosis, than Asians, Africans and people from Latin cultures. He explains that this is because calcium can only be absorbed if other minerals and vitamin D are present. He notes that the key to maintaining healthy bones is not the amount of calcium, but the intake of calcium together with other minerals and vitamins such as magnesium, boron, strontium and vitamin D. Other possible contributing minerals are manganese, zinc and silicon. The message throughout his book is that minerals work together as a biological team.

The reverse may happen: the presence of another mineral may inhibit absorption. Even a person's general state of health, the anti-perspirant they use or the water they drink can affect absorption.

A web article 'Testosterone Production The Elemental Facts, An Interview With Victor Conte' by Nelson Montana at http://www.t-nation.com describes how calcium inhibits absorption of other minerals by up to 60-70% and needs to be taken separately, at least two hours before or after taking other mineral supplements.

Moreover, manufacturers use extra calcium in capsules in the form of either dicalcium phosphate or calcium sulfate as a filler. I took two mineral supplement bottles from my kitchen cupboard and they both list dicalcium phosphate as an 'Other Ingredient'. This has been an industry standard for over 25 years so taking any mineral supplement that uses this calcium filler may not help as much as it could.

Drug Digest at http://www.drugdigest.org states that calcium salts remove potassium and magnesium from the body. An article in the American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition (Vol. 82, No. 3, 589-597, September 2005) finds that calcium also inhibits absorption of iron.

Other examples of minerals that you should not take at the same time are iron and zinc. Taking iron with zinc inhibits its absorption; see the Drug Digest web site. Extra iron should only be taken under the advice of a health care professional. Taking zinc with copper, iron or phosphorous supplements inhibits absorption; again, see the Drug Digest web site.

Environmental factors may inhibit absorption. For example, per Conte and Montana, anti-perspirants contain aluminum chlorohydrate and hard water is often treated with sodium aluminate to prevent the build-up of calcium and magnesium deposits in the pipes. So there is aluminum in our environment and aluminum inhibits absorption and utilization of magnesium.

Another issue is how well the body absorbs minerals. They are mostly absorbed in the small intestine. Conte and Montana mention another factor which may inhibit absorption of minerals: antacids inhibit digestion by reducing hydrochloric acid in the stomach so that it cannot break down and absorb nutrients

I might also add that old fecal matter in the large intestine inhibits absorption of minerals - only colon cleansing such as colon hydrotherapy can help this.

For all these reasons, a regular multi-mineral supplement from the store may not compensate for the deficiency of minerals in our soil and food. Conte and Montana discuss how to achieve the best absorption of minerals:

* Take them on an empty stomach

* Do not take them all at once in order to reduce competition for absorption between minerals:

* Take calcium by itself

* Take chromium and copper together

* Take iron and selenium together

* Take zinc and magnesium together (just before bedtime)

Zinc and magnesium are often put together in well-absorbed forms in a product referred to as 'ZMA'. ZMA-using athletes increased free and total testosterone levels by about 30%, and experienced IGF-1 increases, when they might otherwise have expected reduced levels because of the strain on their bodies. The ZMA-using athletes experienced strength gains that were 2.5 times greater than a non-ZMA control group.

We may have to accept for now that mineral supplements are far from perfect but better than not taking anything. To the extent that you can, split up what you take as described in this article and try to find ones that do not use dicalcium phosphate or calcium sulfate as fillers.

We have seen the difficulties in trying to formulate a mineral supplement. As the supplement manufacturers Biotest point out, biological systems are extremely complex and nobody really knows what nutrients we need in what quantities and combinations, so trying to copy nature may not be the answer.

The alternative may be to take organic fruit and vegetables extracts that have been freeze-dried such as the new product from Biotest called Superfood. I have no financial interest in Biotest other than as a very satisfied customer. If we cannot reconstruct nature artificially, let's take natural produce and condense it into a form that we can easily consume. Let's use technology and nature to offset the effects of industrial agriculture.

Menopause Relief--When Will Your Hot Flashes Ever End

Menopause Relief--When Will Your Hot Flashes Ever End

There is no clear, straightforward answer to the question of how long your hot flashes last, and how you can get some menopause relief. This is because every woman is different, and has different circumstances.
Hot flashes are directly related to physical and mental health. Stress is also a common trigger that sets of a hot flash.

Just as your body is completely unique, so are your menopause symptoms. A healthy lifestyle, together with overall physical fitness and a good mental attitude will surely help reduce the symptoms.

Very often hot flashes are more frequent during times of stress, and obviously everyone's level of stress can vary greatly. Many women notice that their hot flashes occur more often when they are stressed. This can become a big problem if your lifestyle is hectic and in overdrive nearly all the time.

Will the hot flashes stop in a few months, a few years, or what?

It could be six months, it could be six years, or it could be sixteen years! Some women have them for just a short while, and others are still having them while in the nineties.

Since there is nothing you can do about any genetic predisposition that might give you a tendency toward hot flashes, the best thing you can do is learn about the underlying causes, and take definite steps to manage your own health. A healthy mind and body will help shorten the length of time you have hot flashes, as well as decrease the intensity of the ones you do have.

You can have hot flashes in your twenties, or after menopause

When your body is stressed to the point of creating a hormonal imbalance, the mind is tricked into thinking it needs to cool things down, so it orders the blood vessels to dilate, the sweat glands to produce, and the heart rate to increase; you have a hot flash. This is the body's attempt to regulate itself and is a signal that it needs attention.

Hot flashes can occur at any time in a woman's life. Because they are more typical during menopause they are commonly regarded as a symptom of menopause. However, many women experience them before and after their change in life.

Eating the right foods can shorten the duration of hot flashes

It is common for certain foods to trigger hot flashes, such as spicy foods, sugar, alcohol, and caffeine. This can be different for everyone, so it is important to listen to your body. When you find that certain foods trigger a hot flash, simply avoid it in the future, unless you like the hot flashes!

Eating an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables is a sure way to reduce the hot flashes. You body need the building blocks to create the hormones that regulate health and wellness, and fresh, whole foods will go a long way to help you.

Adding a high quality vitamin/mineral supplement can also make the hot flashes shorter in intensity and duration. Many excellent supplements are formulated with this very purpose in mind, and can be highly effective.

In conclusion, hot flashes are different for every woman, but taking positive steps to manage your own health will help with the frequency and duration of hot flashes. Take the time to study, listen to your own body, and take the necessary steps to keep your body in a state of balance and health. Randy Hough and Laura Simon, MSW,MEd,have worked together to create a family stress blog and a menopause relief web site. They live and work in the beautiful Upper Valley of Vermont.

Menopausal Women and Men Older Than 50 Need Adequate Amounts of DIM, A Cancer-Fighting, Super-Nutrient

Menopausal Women and

Many of patients are menopausal women and men older than 50. This is the age group where mid-life hormonal shifts and changes can become problematic and set the stage for the onset of future health problems, like breast, uterine and prostate cancers, if left unchecked. The problematic hormone that can get out of whack at this time is largely estrogen as bad estrogens can predominate which allow dangerous oxidation to occur that damages DNA. However, as I tell my patients, nature has given us a near miracle phytonutrient to reverse this process DIM, short for Diindolyl Methane, and Id like to tell you about it.
DIM The Miracle Phytonutrient You May Be Missing
If you eat several servings of broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and cabbage, on a regular basis you likely get enough of DIM. Cruciferous vegetables like these are natures carriers of DIM, an important phytonutrient that has been proven in numerous studies over the last decade to have amazing hormone-balancing and even anti-aging and anti-cancer properties. Deficiencies in DIM are thought to be behind the rise in hormone-driven cancers like those of the breast, uterine and prostate; colon cancer, and even coronary artery disease as too much estrogen can increase the risk for hardening of the coronary arteries and the decreased ability to dissolve blood clots.
DIM has the capacity to regulate and balance estrogen metabolism and neutralize bad estrogen metabolites and promote good 2-hydroxy estrogen metabolites that have been shown in research to be protective against breast cancer, as well as other types, in both women and men. In addition high animal fat diets and deficiencies of Omega 3 fatty acids also correspond to low levels of these good, cancer-fighting estrogen metabolites.
Recent research has also made an even more important connection with prostate cancer and these bad estrogens. It is thought now that prostate cancer is likely more driven both by a mans
age-related decrease of testosterone and rise of these bad estrogen levels. Yes, men carry estrogen too and it can start to be the dominant hormone when testosterone starts falling. Estrogens, specifically the active estradiol type, has been shown to drive up PSA (prostate specific antigen) levels as much as testosterone. Another of DIMs good estrogen metabolites, 2-methoxyestradiol, was shown in studies to inhibit this increase of PSA. Regular intake of DIM would protect against rising PSA.
Early research with DIM in animals showed that chemically-induced cancers were prevented by supplementation with DIM. These studies also showed that the addition of DIM supported selective apoptosis, i.e., the natural, programmed cell death which removes damaged cells. In humans, 500 grams (about 2-1/2 cups) of broccoli, a high DIM content food, was shown to increase good, 2-hydroxy estrogen metabolites in urine.
DIM, however, is not a phytoestrogen, like soy and other estrogen-mimic vegetables and compounds. It has no estrogenic activity which makes it ideal for a man over 50 in andropause to help protect against prostate and colon cancer. Similarly, postmenopausal women, fearful of taking traditional HRT because of its documented side effects, can supplement with DIM without worry. In fact, new studies out of Italy show that a woman may be much better off using DHEA instead of HRT as it has been found to protect breast and uterine tissues from cancer growth. Adding DIM to augment DHEA can further serve in the protection against breast cancer in the majority of women.
DIM has also been shown in research studies to be heart protective as well as it inhibits lipoprotein oxidation, i.e., which precedes the formation of dangerous, hardened plaques on arterial walls. DIMs two good estrogen metabolites, 2-hydroxy and 2-methoxyl estrogens are powerful antioxidants that prevent this oxidation from taking place.
Other health benefits of DIM include an aid to fat loss, especially in over-50 age men whose testosterone levels are decreasing, but also in estrogen-dominant perimenopausal women who may be lacking progesterone. Estrogen imbalance can store fat around the middle and also cause water retention. Because DIM decreases estrogen levels in men, it has the effect of releasing more free testosterone which can lead to increased libido.
How Can You Add More DIM To Your Diet
As I mentioned above, cruciferous vegetables are the food source of DIM, but there are also other foods and nutrients that can help boost DIM. These include the following:

Cruciferous (Brassica) vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, mustard greens, turnips, wasabi, watercress. Get at least 500 grams, or about 2-1/2 cups (100 grams equals cup) per day. *Note: If you take thyroid medication, be sure to eat these vegetables steamed which disables the goitrogen compounds in these vegetables that interrupt thyroid hormone production. Take thyroid medication in the morning 1 hour before eating.
DIM supplementation: Men can take between 100-150 mg per day; women should start with half, 50-75 mg a day. *Note: If you take thyroid medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist about taking DIM supplements as they may interfere with the absorption of your thyroid medication.

DIM has been shown in research to be beneficial to the prevention of many estrogen-imbalance disease states in both men and women. Ask your healthcare professional about using DIM to augment DHEAs alternative HRT, anti-aging properties. In addition, if you take thyroid medication, be sure to ask them if DIM will interfere with its absorption.

Mediterranean Restaurant At The Swissotel Nai Lert Park In Bangkok

Mediterranean Restaurant At The Swissotel Nai Lert Park In Bangkok

A Mediterranean restaurant in Bangkok is not a common sight but there are a few and the best one may be La Dolce Vita at Ma Maison. This restaurant has an interesting pedigree, starting out in the early 90s as a high-end French restaurant that for years was considered one of the top two in the city. Its present incarnation draws on that heritage as well as a strong Italian influence hence the Italian name to produce a dining spot that serves a mix of cuisines with the common thread being ingredients from Mediterranean countries.
A survey of the menu reveals exactly that: rabbit and truffles and gorgonzola cheese mix with olive oil, mussels and yellowtail tuna to offer diners an eclectic mix of dishes that is as varied as it is interesting to people with a real passion for fine food. The dishes themselves are mostly fusions of Italian and French dishes that are contemporary and innovative. There are also sections of risottos and pastas that are primarily Italian in nature.

On a recent trip I sampled four dishes that ran the gamut of the different styles and ingredients presented here. From the appetizer menu I selected a Caesar salad, even though there were many other interesting dishes in this section, primarily because I wanted to see it made from scratch at the tableside. This is something that few restaurants do anymore and it takes a good bit of training for a waiter to be able do it properly at the table. The waiter here was very knowledgeable and quite accomplished, creating a Caesar whose dressing had just the right amount of garlic, anchovy and mustard, at least for my tastes.

A black truffle soup, which leans far into French territory, was topped with a cannellini bean foam and a couple of slices of truffle, giving it both a lightness and yet a very rich flavor to top off the delicious essence of the soup. A spaghetti dish with Maine lobster and a tomato cream sauce was also successful, most likely because the acidity of the tomato sauce was softened by the cream and didnt intrude upon the delicate flavor of the lobster as much as it might have otherwise.

My final dish was a veal loin topped with foie gras and, again, some black truffles that displayed the true richness of French cooking at its best. The thick, perfectly cooked loin was served on a bed of spinach with some other vegetables also. This dish represented the true roots of the restaurant a pedigree of fine French cooking that manages to co-exist with the lighter fare on the menu that uses Mediterranean ingredients in different styles of cooking. Uniting these styles together into a consistent menu is not an easy thing to do but La Dolce Vita at Ma Maison seems to have accomplished it easily ad gracefully.

Maybe There Is A Cure For Diabetes (type 2) After All!

Maybe There Is A Cure For Diabetes (type 2) After All!

Diabetes has risen to be among the top 5 killer diseases in the world. The good news is that its curable. Studies have shown that the cure for diabetes lies in weight loss and healthy eating. It is possible adequately treat diabetes by making some lifestyle changes.

Type 1 diabetes is not curable but can be effectively managed by ensuring that one gives the body the necessary insulin. There are insulin products in the products that can be directly injected directly into the blood stream to regulate the sugar levels.

On the other hand, Type 2 diabetes is curable through discipline and sheer will power. Most of the drugs out there try to hide the symptoms of diabetes and slow down its complications.

Its however necessary to understand that diabetes is a lifestyle disease. The increasing number of people living unhealthy lifestyles has led to a rise in the occurrence of diabetes. Most individuals in the world today have abandoned healthy cultures and opt for quick fixes to their problems. Fast foods and lack of exercise are the norm in almost every household.

How Does Weight Loss Help Cure Diabetes?

A recent research has shown that cutting down on body fat can contribute to cure diabetes. A person who has diabetes needs to lose just a little bit of weight, and they will be healed from the disease.

Previous misconceptions were that one needs to get very skinny to be free from diabetes. However, studies have shown that 13% weight loss which implies about 0.6 grams of fat would help cure diabetes.

By losing weight, the diabetic person sheds fat from their pancreas which in turn boosts production of insulin necessary to regulate blood sugar levels. Losing even one gram of fat from the pancreas will act as a cure for diabetes.

It is of the essence to restrict calorie intake in your body and strive to stay away from foods that will lead to weight gain. Losing even 5% of your weight helps control your sugar levels as well as your cholesterol level.

Watch What You Eat

Healthy eating helps cure diabetes. What you eat directly affects your weight gain and consequently your diabetes. Eating a balanced diet doesnt have to be complicated.

Ensure that your diet has nutritious and healthy foods. Nutritionists advocate that vegetables should be the largest portion of your plate. Consuming a lot of vegetables especially uncooked ones ensure that your body gets essential nutrients that boost insulin levels in the body and eventually cure diabetes.

Ensure that you consume whole grain foods as well which are loaded with fiber necessary to control glucose levels in the body. You do not need a complicated meal plan. Incorporate readily available healthy foods in your diet. All it takes is a lot of discipline to ensure that you control your portions and eat the healthy stuff.

Keep off processed, refined and bleached food. Going organic will help cure your diabetes.
Remain positive and keep in mind that diabetes can be reversed. It lies in losing weight and living a wholesome, healthy lifestyle.

So this is a good start. Work it into a healthy lifestyle and you just might then that there is a cure for diabetes - at least for Type 2!

Making Weight For Fighters

Making Weight For Fighters

Making Weight for a fight has a reputation for being a grueling combination of starvation, dehydration and excessive training with sweat suits on. Popularised by the old school fighters wearing a bin liner and skipping/running for hours on end to 'get a good sweat on'. . . .

First things First. Sweating does not mean you are losing fat. You are losing 'weight' on the scales; affirmative, but you arent losing fat and as soon as your replenish that water i.e. drink something you are back to square one. . minus the time you just wasted.

Secondly we have agreed that water weighs something! yes?

Well then why is it i see dedicated fighters starving themselves for the hours up to the weigh in. .doing saunas and steam rooms only to gulp down a load of water afterwards?! huh? Contradictory? I think so!

Ok i got on a bit of a rant there but it applies to you too!

If you are going to weigh yourself it must be

1. Same time of day

2. Same day

3. Under the same conditions

4. In the same clothes (clothes optional)

5. Same scales

Its all about repeatability! ALL of the circumstances have to be identical!

Same Time Of Day

This one is easy! Weighing in the morning is different to weighing in the evening! You haven't eaten yet and you have more than likely 'gone to the bathroom'.

Same Day

This is to ensure that your BEHAVIOUR was the same/similar on the run up to this 'weigh in' as it was last week! It makes it repeatable! no use weighing yourself on a monday after being drinking beer and pizza all weekend and then weighing your sefl on the next wednesday when chances are you may not have been eating/drinking the same Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? i like monday morning as a weigh in because psychologically you are a good girl/boy on the weekend because of the imminent weigh in :-)

Under The Same Conditions

This one gets a bit crazy but you want to make sure that your eating patterns the DAY before the weigh in are similar each week! Eat light (salads not heaps of vegetables) and drink plenty of water. that way you dont have a kilo of vegetables still in your bowels the morning after. . not a nice thought but it had to be said!

Same clothes

Clothes do not all weigh the same. . enough said

Same Scales

This is self explainatory. There may be slight variations between scales. It must be same ground surface too (yes it can effect readings).

So here it is step by step. .

Eat the same the day before and preferably eat lightly. As i said before vegetables may not put on weight but they weigh something! That is until they have 'passed' at least, agreed? Keep that in mind! What you eat the day before will more than likely be in your system still the next day ! Especially if it is a late meal!

Eat salads and not vegetables. . eat the main bulk of your light meals earlier in the day and then eat lightly later in the day.

Drink plenty of water all day to initiate 'flushing mode' and then all of a sudden STOP drinking water. . this works by causing your body to keep expelling water at an accelerated rate and then when you stop drinking . . its still 'flushing'. I know it sounds a bit harsh but if you want a half repeatable measurment on the scales DO IT ok!

Now first thing in the morning do not weigh yet. . see if you need to go to the bathroom 1st!

Now. . .

WEIGH YOURSELF!

Whatever the scales says, thats your TRUE weight not water weight, not 'ooo i had a big meal' weight.

Thats your REAL weight theres no escaping it!

Start this week see how you get on. Next week there's no hiding from it. Were you following your programme or did you slip up?! All will be Revealed!

Go one step further and TAKE A PICTURE OF THE SCALES. . .DIGITAL SCALES! Not the one that you can rest you hand on the table and take away a pound or two. . a REAL DIGITAL SCALES.

If you follow this to the letter the scales really DOESNT LIE!

Not solely does diabetes impact pretty much 24 million people in the United States, however 25 percent don't know they have it.

Diabetes: Why Is It Dangerous?

"At the point when ineffectively controlled diabetes causes blood glucose levels that are too high or too low, you may not feel well," clarifies Claudia L. Morrison, RD, outpatient diabetes program organizer at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. "Diabetes that is inadequately controlled after some time can prompt to complexities that influence the body from go to toe." Issues can happen with everything from one's eyes, kidneys, and nerves to conception organs, veins, and gums. In any case, the most major issues are coronary illness and danger of stroke.

Diabetes: What Role Does Diet Play?

"Nourishment can either advance diabetes or help avert it, contingent upon how it influences the body's capacity to process glucose," says Elizabeth Ricanati, MD, therapeutic chief of the Cleveland Clinic's Lifestyle 180 Program in Cleveland. "Individuals ought to maintain a strategic distance from sustenance that expansion glucose and those that raise cholesterol, for example, handled nourishment, nourishment high in soaked fats or with trans fats, and nourishment with included sugars and syrups. Prepared nourishment and additionally things high in fat or sugar not exclusively can upset the harmony among-st glucose and insulin, bringing about irritation, however can likewise add to hazard variables, for example, being overweight. Carbs, as well, should be viewed. While they are important to fuel the body, a few sugars raise blood glucose levels more than others. "The hypoglycemic file (GI) measures how a sugar containing sustenance raises blood glucose," says Morrison. "Nourishment's are positioned in light of how they contrast with a reference sustenance, for example, white bread. Dry beans and vegetables, all non-bland vegetables, and some entire grain breads and oats all have a low GI."

Diabetes: What Is a Healthy Diet?

A solid eating regimen for diabetes is basically the same as a sound eating regimen for anybody. Eat sensibly estimated bits to abstain from putting on weight, and incorporate foods grown from (as far as possible squeeze to close to eight ounces a day); entire grains instead of prepared ones; fish and incline cuts of meat; beans and vegetables; and fluid oils. Confine soaked fats and unhealthy snacks and treats like chips, cake, and frozen yogurt, and avoid trans fats inside and out. Thirty minutes of practice most days of the week and losing 5 to 10 percent of body weight, if a man is overweight, are additionally essential in lessening the danger of sort 2 diabetes. At last, anybody encountering incessant pee, outrageous thirst or appetite, unexplained weight reduction, weakness, foggy vision, or successive diseases ought to see a specialist for a blood test to check for diabetes. With cautious consideration and solid way of life decisions, diabetes can be monitored.

However, one of the major challenges when it comes to maintaining a paleo diet is preparing paleo food on a daily basis. Many people lead very busy lifestyles and often lack the time to prepare home cooked food. Although preparing a batch of food and eating it in the course of the week sounds like a great way to save money, time and stay healthy, many people dont have a clue when it comes to making weekly paleo meals.

Main Parts of Paleo Meals

If you think of paleo meals, they generally contain four parts. These include meat or an alternative animal protein, fats, non-starchy vegetables, and starchy vegetables, fruits or/and nuts. Remember that your source of protein can be the source of fat, but if your protein source is lean, you may have to add fat.

Proteins

When you cook food in a batch, you will be typically cooking one of the three parts. You can however batch-cook the protein alone if you have adequate meal prep time after work because protein takes the longest part of meal preparation. This will save you the biggest prep time. You can prepare a batch of hard-boiled eggs, mini frittatas, shredded pork or beef, steak, chicken breast, chili beef or pork, or any kind of roast meatloaf or meatballs.

Non-Starchy Vegetables

In case you dont have adequate meal prep time after work, your paleo food can also include batch-cooked vegetables. This can prove to be tricky since you have to ensure that all the vegetables will be used up before they go bad. However, it is definitely possible if you make some wise choices. The trick here is to prepare salads for the beginning of the week, while the hardier vegetables should be prepared for the end.

Vegetables that can stay fresh for 1-3 days include fresh vegetable salads, steamed vegetables such as broccoli, squash and cauliflower, and most leafy salads. Remember to keep the salad dressing separately. On the other hand, vegetables that can last until the end of the week include roasted squash, chopped bell peppers and carrots, and coleslaw.

Starchy vegetables

When it comes to starchy vegetables, these should typically include roasted or mashed sweet or white potatoes, sweet potato salads, and baked sweet potatoes. You can batch-cook these for breakfast or for something to eat between the office and the gym.

Make No Bones About It Bone Broth is Important for Convalescing and Healing

Chicken Noodle soup is said to be good for colds and the soul, and I wouldnt argue that. In fact, chicken broth inhibits neutrophil migration which mitigates the side effects of colds, flus and upper respiratory infections.

Lets take that a little further. For convalescing, repairing protein and mineral deficiencies, you cant beat bone broth. These broths are exceptionally rich in protein, and contain many minerals. The Glycine it contains supports detoxification of the body, and is used in the synthesis of hemoglobin, bile salts and other naturally-occurring chemical reactions in the body. Another component, proline, and especially when ingested with vitamin C, supports good skin health. Bone broths are also very rich in gelatin which supports digestive health, and even bones and ligaments, as does the glucosamine and chondroitin it contains. Minerals in the broth are easily digested by the body, and include calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and other minerals. The gelatin also provides supplementary protein, fights against degenerative joint disease, and helps support connective tissue. Good for the hair and nails, too! In fact, within bone broth is the exact minerals, in the proper proportions, that our teeth are made of. 65% of the mineral mass of bone is comprised of calcium and phosphorous, the two minerals that are the main mineral composition of teeth.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), bone broth is used to support our vital essence (chi), builds blood and nourishes the kidneys, which in TCM, includes the adrenal glands. Marrow of the bone is considered the deepest essence of a being in TCM, and marrow is one of the things that bone broth contains. Bone marrow is where the body manufactures both red and white cells.

Bone broth is excellent to have on hand for any cooking need. It has been used around the globe since time immemorial, and is deeply flavored for use as a base for soups, sauces, gravies, and a cooking medium for quinoa, other grains, and vegetables. It is wonderful for braising and basting in addition to its health benefits. And it is inexpensive.

For example, by using the bones from leftover roasted chickens and vegetable scraps from other dishes, you can prepare a batch for pennies. It is also much healthier than the storebought bone broth, which are highly processed and have lost much of their nutrients.

Most importantly, mineral uptake is excellent when ingesting bone broth, and there are no issues of absorption due to the proper amounts of paired nutrients when you use supplements. The fats in the bone broth help restore greater gut health, and increase the absorption rate of the minerals that are in the broth. Using bone broth cannot only help in convalescing, restoring mineral and protein deficiencies, but is an important part in the post-detox gust restoration process, and is recommended in many of my Wellness Plans.

I recommend that in the cooler months and flue/cold season, drink at least 1 cup per day for general health maintenance. In case of a bug or virus, sip constantly. For other uses, see your Wellness Plan recommendations.

How to Make a Quality Bone Broth
2 pounds of bones from a healthy source
2 chicken feet for extra gelatin (this is optional)
1 onion
2 carrots
2 stalks of celery
2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
You can also add fresh parsley, sea salt, peppercorns, or any additional herbs and spices to taste. As you make it more and more you will learn how to use bones and vegetables from other recipes.
You will need a large stock pot, or a crock pot, and a strainer.

Gather your high quality bones, which can be from other dishes you have cooked, from a butcher, etc. Use 1 gallon of water for each 2 pounds of bones. Chop your vegetables, but dont trim greens unless they are of bad quality. They contain many nutrients, some even different from the root of the vegetable, itself.
If you are using raw bones (that have not already been cooked), place them in a roasting pan and roast for 30 minutes at 350.
Place the bones in your large stock or crock pot, and pour spring or filtered water over the bones. Add the vinegar and let sit for 20-30 minutes. The acid from the vinegar helps make the nutrients in the bones more available.
Chop and add the vegetables to the pot, and also add your salt, pepper, herbs and spices. (add parsley and/or garlic in the last 30 minutes)
Bring to a boil, and once rapidly boiling, reduce to simmer. During the first few hours of simmering, skim often to remove any impurities and debris that may have floated to the top. When finished cooking, remove from the heat and cool slightly. Strain to remove all bones and vegetable matter. When cooled, you can store in glass containers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, and you can also freeze it for later use (suggestions above).

Cooking Time Chart
Beef: 48 hours
Chicken or other poultry: 24 hours
Fish: 8 hours

Low-carb Diets and Intestinal Issues

Low-carb Diets and Intestinal Issues

The major complaint of those who use the low-carb diet is the intestinal problems that are associated with reducing carbohydrates. These problems can include constipation and diarrhea. These symptoms can happen to anybody at some point, but those who follow a low-carb diet are especially prone.
Most commonly dieters experience diarrhea during the early days of their dieting. This is a result of the body getting rid of excess carbohydrates. It also marks the beginning of the ketosis process. So in actuality, experiencing diarrhea at the beginning of the diet is a good thing. It indicates that you are on the road to becoming a fat burning machine.

Constipation is a side effect of lack of fiber in a low-carb diet. Whole grains, legumes, and fruit are the normal sources of dietary fiber, and they are all restricted to a low-carb diets initial phases.

However, you shouldnt be scared off from a low-carb way of life because of these issues. There are simple solutions that can prevent and help with these symptoms and allow you to continue with staying on the diet plan.

The first tip is to make sure to include the proper amount of low-carb vegetables in your daily diet. In the induction phase, you can eat up to 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. This is roughly equal to 3 cups of salad vegetables. Some people are tempted to use their carbohydrate grams of cheese or artificially sweetened soda. DONT! Diet soda is a known fat producer.

Eating acceptable vegetables is a vital part of maintaining intestinal health while following the low-carb plan. It is also important to drink a minimum of 8 eight-ounce glasses of water per day and get exercise. Both of these steps can help with intestinal programs.

If you are experiencing constipation specifically, then there are many methods for relief. When you switch from a diet full of processed and refined sugar products, your body will need some time to adjust to this new way of eating. Youll need to make sure to up your fiber intake with acceptable vegetables and fruits (certain fruits are allowed after the initial induction phase). You can also try a fiber supplement like sugar-free Metamucil.

Make sure you are eating enough fats and oils. Constipation can be a result of too little fat in your diet. Adding a tablespoon of olive oil or flax oil to salads or other vegetables can help your intestinal health. Also, try to incorporate a variety of vegetables in your salad. Pale iceberg lettuce does not have much fiber in it. Try dark green lettuces or have a serving of dark green steamed veggies (broccoli, asparagus or spinach are good choices).

If these tips dont work, try cutting out all salt from your diet for a couple of days. This includes pickles, mustard, diet soda, ham, bacon and bottled salad dressing. This will decrease your fluid retention and sometimes helps with bowel movements.

Another thing you can do that is highly effective is adding digestive enzymes and a probiotic to your daily routine. This returns your gut to a normal working machine, the one nature prefers. The problem with a modern processed food diet is that so much of the good gut bacteria is destroyed that digestion ceases to function well. By adding .digestive enzymes and a good probiotic to your daily regimen you reverse the damage already done.

Diarrhea should not be a problem after the first week of the Induction plan. However, on rare occasion, it does persist longer. First, analyze your diet. If you are eating low carb protein bars or other sugar-free products, eliminate them. They may contain sweeteners like glycerine, sorbitol, and malitol which are known to cause diarrhea and gas. Homemade low carb desserts may also be a cause of problems. Most of them use maltodextrin, an artificial sweetener used in baking. Maltodextrin is made from corn and can cause problems for some people.

If you are not used to eating raw vegetables every day, this may be a cause of diarrhea. Understand that your body will adjust to the vegetables and the intestinal side effects wont last forever. Make sure you are chewing your raw vegetables thoroughly. Also, using lightly steamed vegetables rather than raw can be a solution to this problem.

Intestinal problems are common during the first part of a low-carb diet. Keep in mind that these problems will go away within the first few weeks of the new way of eating. If the problems persist, try these tips to get relief. If you haven't considered metabolic enzymes and a good probiotic, now is the time to do just that.

List Of Best Dark Green Vegetables

List Of Best Dark Green Vegetables

Remember when your parents used to stack your plate up with green vegetables and never let you have any dessert until you finished. They actually might have been onto some thing with those green vegetables.

5 of the healthiest vegetables comprise broccoli, kale, spinach, romaine lettuce and Swiss chard. Each of these vegetables, characterized by their own green shade, are filled with natural antioxidants and usually have large amounts of Vitamin C.

It seems that in the past three years, antioxidants are everywhere on the news. They have been proven to reduce some of the risk of cancer and build up the immune system.

Several food products will usually lose nutrients when cooked. The great thing about these dark green vegetables is that you could find them easily in your grocery store and they also taste great with almost no food preparation, maintaining much of their nutrients intact.

This is some important information about all of these healthy vegetables:

1. Broccoli is a very good green vegetable. As a matter of fact, the tiny buds are like tiny flourettes which contain more than twice the amount of Vitamin C of an orange.

Broccoli is a very good supply of fiber, both soluble and insoluble. It not only meets both kinds of fiber needs, but it's also a rich source to include to your diet.

Broccoli also helps rebuild sun-damaged skin, reduces the possibility of heart disease, and enhances the immune system. At the same time, it also promotes strong bone growth on account of its large amounts of calcium.

2. Kale is a slightly bitter, leafy green vegetable with a large amount of folic acid and potassium.
The folic acid found in kale is a great addition to your diet in case you have poor hair, skin and nails.
Additionally, the potassium assists to promote the breakdown of lactic acid in muscle tissues after having a exercise session, and it is an excellent food to help defend against muscle soreness in the recovery process.

3. Swiss chard very close to spinach, which has a little more of an earthy undertone. Packed with Vitamins C and K, and also calcium, Swiss chard is a great inclusion to salads.

Vitamin K helps to promote healthy eye and brain function. The next time you have to invest several hours staring at a computer screen or studying for that big exam, try some Swiss chard.

4. Spinach is a green vegetable that's loaded with antioxidants, rich in flavor and in Vitamins A and C, and iron.

Spinach is jam-packed with important vitamins and minerals to develop healthier brain function as well as tough bones and muscles.

Next time you have a salad, give it a try with spinach rather then lettuce for a slight variety.

5. Lettuce may be the very last thing that comes to mind when you just imagine dark green vegetables. While many of the softer shades of lettuce, for instance iceberg, will have very little nutritional value.

Romaine lettuce, while still composed primarily of water, is packed with antioxidants and fiber. The darker green the leaf, the more folic acid is present, which prevents heart disease.

Lettuce is wonderful for diet plans due to the fact that it is very low in calories.

Magnesium, found in romaine lettuce, helps to revitalize muscular tissues, the brain and the nerves.

You can find chlorophyll in lettuce and that is excellent in keeping normal hair color.

Lettuce is high in iron, which helps the formation of red blood cells.

While you may have been made to eat your green vegetables as a child, now you understand why it was so essential. Even today, your green vegetables are necessary to your own health and well-being. Try all of these green vegetables in some new recipes, they may taste better than you think.

Learn About The Benefits Of Organic Superfoods

Learn About The Benefits Of Organic Superfoods

Your miraculous human body allows you to erase the health sins of your past and you can start over with a clean slate. Everyday is like New Year's Day!

Your body's amazing self-regenerating ability gives you a second chance to build a brand new, healthier body--if you're willing to give it the nutritious raw materials it needs to rebuild itself into the new and improved version of you!

While there are several types of food-based multivitamins and minerals on the market, many health authorities consider three super foods the ideal supplements, especially for those who are not able to consume a sufficient amount of organic fruits and vegetables each day.

Super Food No. 1: Spirulina

Spirulina is blue green algae, which is considered the most nutrient dense food on the planet. It contains concentrations of nutrients far exceeding any other known vegetation. It is the best source of vegetable protein, containing about 65 % protein--higher than any other natural food--far more than animal flesh (20%), eggs (12%), whole milk (3%),soybeans (35%), peanuts (25%), or grains (8 to 14%). It is considered a complete protein because it contains all the essential amino acids. Spirulina grows so fast that it yields twenty times more protein per acre than soybeans.

It also contains extraordinary concentrations of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, such as beta carotene (ten times more concentrated than that of carrots), iron, potassium, magnesium, copper, calcium, chromium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, zinc, essential trace minerals, and gamma-linolenic acid.

It is also the most abundant source of Vitamin B-12, and is also rich in phytonutrients and functional nutrients that have a demonstrably positive effect on health.

Because spirulina's nutrient profile is more potent than that of any other food, plant, grain or herb, it is considered a superior whole food alternative to isolated vitamin supplements. In addition to its contribution to the body's nutritional needs, it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer, high cholesterol, allergies, anemia, elevated blood sugar, cardiovascular diseases, viral infections, inflammatory conditions, liver damage and immunodeficiency diseases.

Super Food No. 2: Chlorella

Chlorella is a single-celled, water-grown algae that contains more health enhancing chlorophyll per gram than any other plant. It is extremely rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids and many other nutrients that are beneficial to your health. Chlorella also has an abundance of nucleic acids, which have powerful rejuvenating properties that slow down the aging process, keeps the skin looking youthful and wrinkle-free, and helps you have a longer life.

Dr. Benjamin S. Frank, author of The No-Aging Diet and Nucleic Acid Therapy in Aging and Degenerative Disease, treated his patients with foods rich in nucleic acids. He reported that such a diet made his patients' look and feel 6 to 12 years younger than their chronological age, and their overall health dramatically improved.

They also experienced a substantial fading of lines and wrinkles, and developed healthier, younger-looking skin after only 2 months.

Super Food No. 3: Moringa

The moringa is a genus of trees indigenous to Southern India and Northern Africa, and now cultivated in Central and South America, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The leaves of the species called moringa oleifera, have become recognized in recent years as being highly beneficial to human health. Moringa leaves are an anti-aging powerhouse because they contain several thousand times more of the powerful anti-aging nutrient zeatin than any other known plant.

A study published in Rejuvenation Research shows the undeniable youth-preserving effects of zeatin because of its ability to induce cell division and growth, and delay cell aging.

With the zeatin contained in moringa, new skin cells grow at a faster rate than old skin cells die. This results in a marked reduction of wrinkles on the face and other parts of the body, and more youthful skin appearance. Moringa leaves also has 90 essential nutrients and 2 compounds that prevent cancer and reducing tumors (or retarding their growth).

This has earned moringa the reputation of being a cancer preventative plant. India's natural Ayurvedic medicine uses moringa leaves to prevent and treat over 300 diseases. A Bureau of Plant Industry report states that, gram per gram, moringa leaves contain: twice the protein content of 8 ounces of milk (and 4 times the calcium); the Vitamin C equivalent of 7 oranges; the potassium content of 3 bananas; 3 times the iron of spinach; and 4 times the Vitamin A of carrots.

If you're among the 70% of adults who aren't getting their recommended daily servings of vegetables and the thought of eating ten servings of spinach, collards, kale, green beans, peppers, and other green vegetables doesn't sound appealing (or possible for you to do) you have the option of taking spirulina, chlorella and moringa instead.

When you give your body a daily dose of these super foods it's like renovating your body the way someone would renovate an old house that has seen better days. Remember the words : Your body tomorrow is what you put in it today.

When you flood your body everyday with the 8 most nutrient-dense superfoods in the world--chlorella, moringa, spirulina, cacao, maca, wheatgrass, acai and camu camu--what kind of body do you think you'll have in one week one month one year? "Let food be your medicine, and let your medicine be food."

There is almost no health problem or disease that food cannot help.
